HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary B. Reaves on the occasion of her retirement as Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students of Prairie State College; and

WHEREAS, Mary Reaves earned her associate's degree from Loop College (now Richard J. Daley College), her bachelor's degree from Loyola University, her master's degree from Chicago State University, and her specialist degree in education from Northern Illinois University; she also received a certificate of completion from the Executive Leadership Institute League of Innovation, the Senior Level Institute Academy for Student Conduct Administration, and the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management; and

WHEREAS, Mary Reaves began her educational career at Chicago State University, where she served for 14 years; while there, she served as Assistant to the President, Affirmative Action Officer, and Assistant Director of University Relations; in 1986, she joined Prairie State College; she served as Director of Student Services and Executive Dean of Student Services before becoming Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, where she remained until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mary Reaves has served on the board of directors of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the Statewide Prevention Programming Advisory Board, the Illinois Council of College Attendance, the Illinois Community College Board Task Force of Financial Aid, the Illinois Community College Board Statewide Committee on Remedial Education, the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Board of Control, and the Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education; and

WHEREAS, Mary Reaves is a member of the Illinois African American and Latino Higher Education Alliance, the Illinois Council of Community College Administrators, the Illinois Community College Chief Student Services Officers, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the South Suburban Cook County Girl Scouts, the South Suburban Unity Coalition, Aunt Martha's Advisory Board, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, A retirement celebration will be held in honor of Mary Reaves and her many achievements on May 20, 2012, at Belagio's Restaurant in Homewood; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mary B. Reaves on the occasion of her retirement, thank her for her many years of dedicated service in higher education, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Reaves as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
