| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Roger Bergia, |
| 4 | | Peoria Heights Public School District #325 Superintendent, on |
| 5 | | his retirement; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from |
| 7 | | Eureka College, where he played football and participated in |
| 8 | | track; he received his Master of Arts degree from Bradley |
| 9 | | University; he took postgraduate classes at Bradley |
| 10 | | University, Western Illinois University, and the University of |
| 11 | | Illinois; while in college, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha |
| 12 | | fraternity and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, He has served 52 years in the Village of Peoria |
| 14 | | Heights; he attended school in Peoria Heights, and after |
| 15 | | college, returned to teach and coach for 5 years, and became a |
| 16 | | school principal in 1965; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, He was later promoted to Assistant |
| 18 | | Superintendent; in 1974, he was promoted to District |
| 19 | | Superintendent and has served in that capacity for 38 years; |
| 20 | | and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1981, he was named the School Administrator of |
|

| 1 | | the Year by the Illinois State Board of Education; in 1992, he |
| 2 | | received the Exemplary Practices Award in Early Childhood |
| 3 | | Education from the Illinois State Board of Education; in 1993, |
| 4 | | he received the Business-Education Partnership Award from the |
| 5 | | Illinois State Board of Education; in 1996, he received the |
| 6 | | Exemplary Partnership Award in Construction Industry Prep |
| 7 | | Work-Based Learning from the Illinois State Board of Education; |
| 8 | | and, in 1981, he received the Outstanding Citizenship Award |
| 9 | | from the Peoria Heights Chamber of Commerce; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He was named to Who's Who in American Education in |
| 11 | | 1992; Who's Who in the Midwest in 1984; Who's Who in America in |
| 12 | | 1999; and Who's Who in the World in 1997; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, His hard work and dedication to his career have |
| 14 | | made him respected in Peoria Heights and the surrounding area; |
| 15 | | and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Superintendent Bergia will retire at the end of |
| 17 | | the 2012 school year, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and |
| 18 | | patience remembered fondly by his many students; he will enjoy |
| 19 | | his retirement along with his wife, Val; his daughters, Lori, |
| 20 | | Amy, and Beth; and his grandchildren, Chelsea, Collin, Hanna, |
| 21 | | and Jake; therefore, be it
