HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to acknowledge the Board of 
4Trustees and the staff of Kaskaskia College in Centralia as 
5they begin the building of the Veterans Tribute on the grounds 
6of Kaskaskia College; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Veterans Tribute at Kaskaskia College will be 
8a unique, heartfelt monument that will honor the men and women 
9who have served, who currently are serving, and those who will 
10someday serve the nation; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Tribute will allow students, family members, 
12and visitors a connecting link to veterans by providing a 
13broader spectrum, appreciation, and understanding of the 
14magnitude of all that veterans have done in preserving 
15democracy and keeping the dream of freedom alive; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, When it is completed, the Tribute will have space 
17to proudly display the names and branches of service for 
18150,000 veterans who have connections to the Illinois counties 
19of Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Marion, and Washington; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, The Tribute campaign has an overall goal of 
21raising $1 million to complete all 3 phases of construction;

1Kaskaskia College was chosen as the site for the Tribute 
2because it is the center point for Bond, Clinton, Fayette, 
3Marion, and Washington Counties; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, The project is being 100% funded through private 
5donations; the Veterans Tribute will have a tremendous economic 
6impact for the area as a tourist attraction, bringing guests 
7from around the nation; the Tribute will also provide an 
8excellent educational benefit for students of all ages as they 
9learn about the role that veterans have played in the 
10preservation of our freedom; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we acknowledge and thank the Board of Trustees and the staff of 
14Kaskaskia College as they begin the building of the Veterans 
15Tribute; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Dr. Jim Underwood, President of Kaskaskia College 
18and the Board of Trustees as a symbol of our respect and 
19esteem.
