HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Betty Houston on the occasion of her retirement after 44 years of service with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board; and

WHEREAS, Betty Houston was hired as the 3rd employee of the Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board in 1968 as a clerk stenographer; she has served in several accounting and executive positions during her time with the Board; and

WHEREAS, Betty Houston was an instrumental employee with the Board when it developed a standard basic training program for all police officers within the State and has signed off on the certification of over 100,000 officers during her tenure; she has contributed to several major advancements at the Board over the years, including the development of a computerized database of all police officers in the State, as well as Internet-based tactical training programs; and

WHEREAS, Betty Houston has enjoyed several elements of her job and made numerous friends assisting local government administrations process reimbursement claims, while treating everyone with a balance of personal and professional respect; her coworkers from the office have also become close personal friends, with whom she collaborated to enter several trees in the Memorial Hospital Festival of Trees, winning the Chairman's Award in 2009; she has also competed in the Abe's Amble 10K race, in which she finished with a faster time than the Board's Director in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Betty Houston plans to enjoy her retirement by spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Betty Houston serves as a model of hard work, integrity, teamwork, and dedication to the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Betty Huston on the occasion of her retirement, thank her for her service to the citizens and law enforcement of this State, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Betty Houston as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
