| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Haynes on the |
| 4 | | occasion of her retirement as Peoria City Clerk on June 26, |
| 5 | | 2012; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Mary Haynes has held the position of Peoria City |
| 7 | | Clerk since 1985; she began her career in city government in |
| 8 | | 1980 as an employee in the clerk's office under then-Clerk |
| 9 | | William Kumpf; she became the first elected female clerk in |
| 10 | | Peoria, replacing an appointed clerk, Frances Schwenger; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, During her 27 years as clerk, Mary Haynes has |
| 12 | | served with 6 mayors, 39 City Council members, 10 city |
| 13 | | managers, 9 police chiefs and 7 fire chiefs; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Since 1990, Mary Haynes has taught new clerks |
| 15 | | throughout the State about the duties of office during a "Back |
| 16 | | to the Basics" seminar she created; in recent years, she has |
| 17 | | spearheaded the Rediscovering City Hall efforts, which add |
| 18 | | historical exhibits to the building, and will continue to work |
| 19 | | as a volunteer with the committee after her retirement; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Mary Haynes has earned multiple designations |
| 21 | | during her career and has served in leadership roles on |
