| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ronald M. Serpico |
| 4 | | on the occasion of receiving the Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker |
| 5 | | Award from the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker Award is given by |
| 7 | | the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans to those who |
| 8 | | promote harmony and unity within their communities; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico graduated from Proviso East High |
| 10 | | School in 1970; he subsequently earned his bachelor's degree in |
| 11 | | political science from ISU in 1974 and his Juris Doctor degree |
| 12 | | from the DePaul School of Law in 1977; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico, believing in his grandfather's |
| 14 | | vision of the "American Dream", successfully ran for Mayor of |
| 15 | | Melrose Park in 1997; as mayor, he has made it his mission to |
| 16 | | make Melrose Park a community where people want to move to and |
| 17 | | not from; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico was a delegate to the Democratic |
| 19 | | National Convention in 1972; he is also a charter member and |
| 20 | | vice president of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Illinois State |
| 21 | | University and a former board member of the Proviso Early |
|

| 1 | | Intervention Building Program; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico has been a practicing attorney |
| 3 | | since 1977 and has been in private practice since 1980; he is a |
| 4 | | former prosecutor and library attorney for the Village of |
| 5 | | Melrose Park and a former prosecutor for the Village of Stone |
| 6 | | Park; he is also a former board attorney for the Veterans Park |
| 7 | | District and a former attorney for the Branch 825 Letter |
| 8 | | Carriers Union and the Local 1027 Carpenters Union; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico is well known in his community for |
| 10 | | his great generosity; he has taken on cases for many clients |
| 11 | | who have been unable afford a legal retainer; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico and his loving wife of 36 years, |
| 13 | | Donna, have 3 children, Ron Jr., Joanna, and Michael, and 6 |
| 14 | | grandchildren, Hannah, David, Thomas, Brooklyn, Naomi, and |
| 15 | | Giovanna; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico will be presented with the Robert |
| 17 | | G. Cimo Peacemaker Award during an event at the Donald E. |
| 18 | | Stephens South Ballroom in Rosemont on June 9, 2012; therefore, |
| 19 | | be it
