HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate David Lee Steelman 
4on the occasion of his retirement as the Government Liaison for 
5Western Illinois University on May 31, 2012; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, David Steelman was born on September 5, 1953, in 
7White Hall; his parents are Glenn B. Steelman and Ella Dee 
8Steelman; he has 4 siblings, Kathryn Jo Brown, Michael G. 
9Steelman, Kevin W. Steelman, and Todd J. Steelman; he has a 
10daughter, Rebecca R. Steelman; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, David Steelman graduated from Bushnell Prairie 
12City High School in 1971; he earned his bachelor's degree in 
13political science from Western Illinois University in August of 
141980; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, David Steelman served his country as a member of 
16the United States Navy from 1973 to 1977; during his time in 
17the Navy, he served as an Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare 
18Operator (AW2); and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, David Steelman began his tenure as the Government 
20Liaison for Western Illinois University in December of 1995; as 
21Government Liaison, he was responsible for representing

1Western Illinois University's interests in Springfield and 
2ensuring that the University received the funding and support 
3it deserved; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Prior to his service at Western Illinois 
5University, David Steelman served as a policy and planning 
6analyst for the Illinois General Assembly's Joint Committee on 
7Administrative Rules from 1980 to 1983; from 1983 to 1988, he 
8served as a senior research associate for the Illinois 
9Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation, where he 
10prepared, analyzed, and tracked legislation and regulatory 
11policies, and prepared research materials and testimony; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, David Steelman and his loving wife, Christina Lyn 
13Steelman, were married on November 27, 2003; and
 
14    WHEREAS, David Steelman serves as a model of hard work, 
15integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
16Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
18NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
19we congratulate David Steelman on the occasion of his 
20retirement, thank him for his service to the staff and students 
21of Western Illinois University, and wish him many happy and 
22healthy retirement years; and be it further
