HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Bob Blackwood as he retires from the Cook County College Teachers Union; and

WHEREAS, In 1998, he married Diane Miller, from Grand Forks, North Dakota; and

WHEREAS, He was a professor of Literature and Film at Wright College from 1970 to 2000 and a teacher of English and various Literature courses; he is now a Professor Emeritus at Wright College; he has been a guest speaker on film panels at DragonCon and various WorldCons from 2005 to the present; he has been a reviewer of books on film for the American Library Association from 1970 to the present; and he worked as assistant editor, editor, and special contributor for the Cook County College Teachers Union College Union Voice newspaper from 1969 to 2012; and

WHEREAS, He is the author of From the Silent Era to "The Sopranos": Italian American Gangsters in Trend-Setting Films and TV Shows; co-author with Dr. John Flynn of Future Prime: The Top 10 SF Films of the 20th Century as Chosen by WorldCon Fans; and a film reviewer for the Columbia River Reader in Washington and Oregon from 2008 to the present; and

WHEREAS, He has worked in public relations for various political figures over the years, including State Representative Roman J. Kosinski, Chicago Aldermen Thomas Cullerton and Patrick Levar, Water Reclamation District Commissioner Gloria Alitto Majewski, and Congressman Frank Annunzio; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Bob Blackwood on his retirement and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Bob Blackwood as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
