HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The Army National Guard, the Air National Guard, 
3the Army Reserve, the Air Force Reserve, the Navy Reserve, the 
4Marine Corps Reserve, and the Coast Guard Reserve constitute a 
5vital and ever more important part of our nation's defense; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Members of the National Guard and Reserve are 
7"Citizen Warriors" who lead dual lives as workers, managers, 
8professionals, and students throughout our communities; as 
9members of our nation's armed forces, they train and maintain 
10their military skills so they can answer the call to serve in 
11military security operations at home and abroad as well, as 
12provide humanitarian aid at home; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, On June 22, 1972, President Richard Nixon 
14authorized the Secretary of Defense to create the National 
15Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) 
16and the Department of Defense established the Illinois 
17Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; and

  
 
18    WHEREAS, For 40 years, ESGR has promoted and facilitated a 
19strong culture of mutually-beneficial relationships between 
20employers and their military employees, thereby enabling 
21members of the Guard and Reserve to respond quickly to state 
22disaster emergencies and national military necessities, while

1knowing that they have a secure civilian career after their 
2service; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we gratefully acknowledge the 40th anniversary of the Employer 
6Support of the Guard and Reserve and especially the Illinois 
7Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and 
8thank the organization and its volunteer members for their 
9outstanding service to our State's employers and their employee 
10members of the National Guard and Reserve; and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
12presented to the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and 
13the Illinois Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and 
14Reserve.
