| 2 | | WHEREAS, Proper dental care is a vital health concern that |
| 3 | | is overlooked by or unavailable to many Americans; a lack of |
| 4 | | routine oral health care can lead to serious consequences, |
| 5 | | including severe tooth decay, gum disease, and potentially |
| 6 | | deadly infections; unchecked dental problems can also increase |
| 7 | | the risk of serious and chronic health conditions, such as |
| 8 | | diabetes and heart disease; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, In June of 2012, United States Senator Bernie |
| 10 | | Sanders (VT) introduced the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of |
| 11 | | 2012 into the Senate; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 seeks |
| 13 | | to end the oral health crisis in America by expanding coverage, |
| 14 | | creating new access points, enhancing the workforce, improving |
| 15 | | education, and funding new research; the Act would extend |
| 16 | | comprehensive dental health insurance to millions of Americans |
| 17 | | who do not have coverage today, while increasing both the |
| 18 | | number of places that would accept such coverage and the number |
| 19 | | of qualified oral health care professionals in communities with |
| 20 | | the greatest need for them; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 would |
| 22 | | also address the need to educate current and future oral health |
