| 2 | WHEREAS, John Boos & Co., based in Effingham, is one of the | ||||||
| 3 | oldest manufacturers of premium quality kitchen equipment and | ||||||
| 4 | butcher blocks in the United States, and has been in business | ||||||
| 5 | continuously since 1887; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Conrad Boos Sr. founded the business in 1887 and | ||||||
| 7 | named it for his son, John; for many years, he worked out of | ||||||
| 8 | the blacksmith shop, which was located at what is now 406 West | ||||||
| 9 | Jefferson Street in Effingham; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, As a single product (die block) manufacturer, a | ||||||
| 11 | single minded focus was formed during the early years of John | ||||||
| 12 | Boos & Co.: to make the best die blocks in the world; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, During World War II, John Boos & Co. proved its | ||||||
| 14 | ingenuity and adaptability to manufacture food service work | ||||||
| 15 | tables and tabletops for the United States Army, Navy, and | ||||||
| 16 | Marine Corps mess halls and kitchens; the company emerged from | ||||||
| 17 | the war era with a new manufacturing philosophy, a new service | ||||||
| 18 | culture, and expanded product lines; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Beginning in the mid-1960s, John Boos & Co. | ||||||
| 20 | further expanded the growth of its stainless steel fabrication; | ||||||
| 21 | ever-changing to accommodate the market requirements, the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | company's manufacturing expanded to include an entire range of | ||||||
| 2 | stainless products; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, The John Boos & Co. is a leader in environmental | ||||||
| 4 | initiatives and is firmly committed to managing environmental | ||||||
| 5 | matters as an integral part of its business practice; the | ||||||
| 6 | company uses renewable North American hardwood products and | ||||||
| 7 | maintains a high standard in the treatment of the environment | ||||||
| 8 | during the manufacturing process; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Although the trend in American manufacturing over | ||||||
| 10 | the past 2 decades has been to outsource jobs overseas, John | ||||||
| 11 | Boos & Co. has remained committed to quality, American-made | ||||||
| 12 | products and has maintained production in the United States; | ||||||
| 13 | and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, John Boos & Co. continues to be the only company | ||||||
| 15 | in the United States that has both stainless steel fabrication | ||||||
| 16 | and wood manufacturing facilities in one location; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, 2012 marks the 125th anniversary of the founding | ||||||
| 18 | of the John Boos & Co., earning them a reputation for creating | ||||||
| 19 | the finest products in the industry; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 21 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||

| 1 | we congratulate the owners and employees of John Boos & Co. on | ||||||
| 2 | the occasion of the company's 125th anniversary of providing | ||||||
| 3 | quality products and employing Illinois workers; and be it | ||||||
