HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate James Rivers 
4Thompson on the occasion of becoming the first Labor Man of the 
5Year Award recipient in the East St. Louis Federation of 
6Teachers Local 1220 IFT/AFT AFL-CIO's history; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, James Thompson is a member of the East St. Louis 
8School District #189's Pupil Personnel Services Department; he 
9has served the members of the Board of Education in several 
10administrations as Principal, Supervisor, Faculty and Staff 
11Member; he has also served as the East St. Louis School 
12District 189 staff coordinator for the Senator James F. 
13Clayborne's Mentoring and Enrichment Youth Program at East St. 
14Louis Senior High School for 5 years; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, James Thompson has been an active member of his 
16community; he serves as coordinator of the District 189's 
17annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing special effort for 
18volunteerism and the joint union's venture on volunteering with 
19the renovation of the Youth Annex to the Village Theatre of 
20Alorton, where students will receive complementary 
21after-school, Saturday tutoring, and training in various 
22fields of interest; and

1    WHEREAS, James Thompson is a member of the Greater Faith 
2Christian Church in Centreville; he was ordained as a Deacon on 
3March 25, 2012; he serves as the Assistant Chairman of the 
4Trustee Ministry and is a member of the Pastors Aide Ministry; 
5Deacon Thompson also participates in numerous church programs, 
6including Bible Study, Sunday School, Worship Service, and the 
75th Sunday Fellowship Institute; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, James Thompson and his loving wife, Martha, have 
9one daughter, Tashia Yvette (Maurice) Billups, and one dear 
10grandson, Arkim R. Lewis; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, James Thompson serves as a model of hard work, 
12integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
13Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
15NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
16we congratulate James Rivers Thompson on the occasion of 
17winning the Labor Man of the Year Award and wish him continued 
18success and happiness in the future; and be it further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to James Thompson as a symbol of our esteem and 
21respect.
