HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate St. John of the 
4Cross Parish School for receiving the 2012 U.S. Department of 
5Education National Blue Ribbon School Award; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, St. John of the Cross Parish School is a Catholic 
7school located in Western Springs; the principal is Kathleen 
8Gorman and the pastor, Rev. David P. Dowdle; its assistant 
9principals are Zita Wheeler and Tom Clausing; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was 
11established in 1982 to recognize public and private schools 
12boasting high or significantly improved achievement; the 
13program's  goal is to identify attributes of thriving American 
14schools and to replicate their success in other schools; St 
15John's is one of only 50 private schools across the Nation to 
16be named a National Blue Ribbon School this year; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, St. John of the Cross Parish School provides a 
18safe and dynamic Catholic environment where faith is nourished 
19and knowledge grows; it was founded in 1961 and has maintained 
20a strong Catholic identity and strong academics throughout its 
21history; it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011; it has 
22become one of the largest Catholic schools in Chicago's

1Archdiocese; and
  
 
  
2    WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon School Award recognizes 
3the time and hard work of teachers and students, as well as the 
4critical support and involvement of the students' parents and 
5the entire parish community; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we celebrate and honor St. John of the Cross Parish School on 
9receiving the 2012 U.S. Department of Education National Blue 
10Ribbon School Award; and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to St. John of the Cross Parish School as an 
13expression of our respect and esteem.
