HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Quad Cities 
4MetroLink on being selected as the 2012 Outstanding Public 
5Transportation System by the American Public Transportation 
6Association; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The award is given out amongst all agencies in 
8North America carrying between 1,000,000 and 4,000,000 
9passengers annually; MetroLink carried 3.5 million trips in 
10fiscal year 2011; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, MetroLink beat out 198 other agencies that were in 
12the running for the award; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, MetroLink continues to improve and expand; the 
14development of the new MetroLink Transit Maintenance Building 
15along the riverfront in Rock Island and the construction of the 
16new MetroLink multi-modal transportation station, which will 
17serve Amtrak and be the nucleus for 2 development plans in 
18neighboring portions of western downtown Moline, should bring 
19good things to the area; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Development of a Chicago-to-Moline Amtrak route 
21is under way; and

1    WHEREAS, MetroLink's general manager is Jeff Nelson; 
2therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate the Quad Cities MetroLink on being selected as 
6the 2012 Outstanding Public Transportation System; and be it

8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to general manager Jeff Nelson as an expression of 
10our esteem and respect.
