| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former |
| 4 | | Chicago police officer, Homewood Trustee, and Cook County |
| 5 | | State's Attorney investigator Ralph De Witt, who passed away on |
| 6 | | October 27, 2012; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Ralph DeWitt was born on July 1, 1949, in Chicago |
| 8 | | and grew up in the Hyde Park community; he served in the U.S. |
| 9 | | Army's First Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War from 1969 |
| 10 | | to 1970, earning a Purple Heart and other medals; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ralph DeWitt married Cynthia in October of 1971, |
| 12 | | and had a daughter, Lauren; he earned a Criminal Justice degree |
| 13 | | from Chicago State University and a Master's degree in Public |
| 14 | | Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology in |
| 15 | | 1991; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Ralph DeWitt began working with the Chicago Police |
| 17 | | Department in 1971, and rose to the rank of lieutenant; in |
| 18 | | 1991, he went to work for the Cook County State's Attorney's |
| 19 | | office as an investigator; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Ralph DeWitt moved to Homewood in 1998, and was |
| 21 | | elected as a village trustee in 2001; he was the first black |
