HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate  St. Paul 
4Evangelical Lutheran Church and School on the celebration of 
5its 125th anniversary, which will be held from September 28-30, 
62012; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran was founded in 1887, 
8and conducted services at Immanuel Lutheran Church in South 
9Chicago's Turner Hall; in 1888, it moved to its current 
10location; in 1889, the Day School was started with 14 pupils; 
11in 1891, a resolution was passed for membership in the 
12Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, now the Lutheran 
13Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS); in 1979, the new church building 
14was dedicated; the original church building was demolished in 
152002; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran has numerous 
17councils, boards, and committees, filled with congregants 
18devoted to the betterment of the church, including the Lutheran 
19Woman's Missionary League (LWML), the Ladies Guild, the Church 
20Council, the Board of Christian Education, the PTL, Christians 
21in Action, the church choir, the Altar Guild, the Board of 
22Trustees, the Board of Elders, Youth Group, and the Sunshine 
23Club; and

1    WHEREAS, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran has had a long list 
2of pastors dedicated to the church and its parishioners, 
3including Carl Eissfeldt, August Frederking, Theodore Herman 
4Dorn, Edwin Pflug, R. Kamphonefner, R. Mohrhardt, M.K. Hargens, 
5Arthur Bodley, Richard Robinson, Paul Anderson, and Jeffery P. 
6Howell; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The theme for the anniversary celebration is 
8"Compelled to Tell...125 years of God's Grace"; therefore, be 
9it

  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we congratulate St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and School 
13on the celebration of the 125th anniversary of its founding; 
14and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and School as 
17an expression of our esteem and respect.
