| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
our | ||||||
| 4 | friend and former colleague, Dr. Redd F. Griffin of Oak Park, | ||||||
| 5 | who passed away on November 20, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was born and raised in Oak Park; he | ||||||
| 7 | earned his master's degree in economics-marketing from | ||||||
| 8 | Roosevelt University and his doctorate in education from Loyola | ||||||
| 9 | University in Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a former reporter for the City | ||||||
| 11 | News Bureau of Chicago and served on the production staff of | ||||||
| 12 | WTTW 11; throughout his life, he helped to promote the | ||||||
| 13 | understanding and appreciation of cultural history and | ||||||
| 14 | communications through courses, lectures, readers theater, | ||||||
| 15 | audiovisual and print media, exhibits, and the Internet; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served as a professor at Triton | ||||||
| 17 | College and Hines VA Hospital; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a founding member of Ernest | ||||||
| 19 | Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park; he served as the Foundation's | ||||||
| 20 | ambassador to the Chicago area, speaking at libraries, | ||||||
| 21 | fellowship groups, and meetings across the suburbs; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Redd Griffin served the people as the State | ||||||
| 2 | Representative of the 21st District during the 82nd General | ||||||
| 3 | Assembly; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was a member of the boards and | ||||||
| 5 | advisory boards with various organizations, including WTTW 11, | ||||||
| 6 | the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, the International | ||||||
| 7 | Press Club of Chicago, and the Illinois State Historical | ||||||
| 8 | Society; he also served on the board of his alma mater, Shimer | ||||||
| 9 | College; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Redd Griffin was the beloved husband of Mary Jo; | ||||||
| 11 | the loving father of Daniel (Sarah) and Timothy Griffin; the | ||||||
| 12 | cherished grandfather of James and Reid Griffin; and the dear | ||||||
| 13 | brother of Michael Griffin and Marnie (Joseph) Fretty; | ||||||
| 14 | therefore, be it

| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. | ||||||
| 18 | Redd F. Griffin; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Redd Griffin as an expression of our | ||||||
| 21 | sympathy.
