| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish |
| 3 | | to recognize the important accomplishments in the lives of |
| 4 | | Illinois residents, communities, and organizations; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service |
| 6 | | Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has worked to fulfill |
| 7 | | Dr. Martin Luther King's dream of serving humanity by feeding |
| 8 | | the hungry, visiting the incarcerated, and loving those in |
| 9 | | need; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service |
| 11 | | Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has taken to hear the |
| 12 | | words of Mrs. Coretta Scott King, who said "We call you to |
| 13 | | commemorate this holiday by making your personal commitment to |
| 14 | | serve humanity with the vibrant spirit of unconditional love |
| 15 | | that was Martin Luther King's greatest strength, and which |
| 16 | | empowered all of the great victories of his leadership. And |
| 17 | | with our hearts open to his spirit of unconditional love, we |
| 18 | | can indeed achieve the Beloved Community of Martin Luther |
| 19 | | King's dream"; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service |
| 21 | | Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has recognized the fact |
| 22 | | that the federal King Holiday and Service Act, enacted in 1994, |
|

| 1 | | designated the King Holiday as a national day of volunteer |
| 2 | | service and charged the Corporation for National and Community |
| 3 | | Services with leading this effort; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service |
| 5 | | Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has helped organize |
| 6 | | projects by a wide range of non-profits, including Community |
| 7 | | Services of Will County Inc., National Hook-up of Black Women, |
| 8 | | University of St. Francis, and the Joliet Slammers; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service |
| 10 | | Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has encouraged the |
| 11 | | citizens of Joliet to take advantage of this day of service and |
| 12 | | participate in events throughout our State on the King Day of |
| 13 | | Service, January 21, 2013, and to create and implement |
| 14 | | community service projects; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 17 | | we honor the 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning |
| 18 | | Committee of Joliet, Illinois and encourage the people of |
| 19 | | Illinois to observe the King Day of Service by volunteering on |
| 20 | | January 21, 2013; and be it further
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service |
