HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor State Representative Michael Connelly on his time in the General Assembly and his commitment to the citizens of his district; and

WHEREAS, Representative Connelly was born in Chicago and raised in LaGrange as one of Tom and Ann Connelly's 7 children; he graduated from Loyola University in 1986 and the John Marshall Law School in 1989; he served as an assistant State's Attorney in Cook County, a law clerk to Justice Allan Stouder of the Illinois Appellate Court, and has been engaged in the private practice of law for over 16 years; and

WHEREAS, From 2006 to 2008, Representative Connelly represented the cities of Naperville, Lisle, and Aurora, as a commissioner on the DuPage County Board; he served as chairman of the Economic Development Committee and the Emergency Telephone Safety Board (911 Board) and was a member of the Judicial Public Safety, Legislative, and Environmental Committees; and

WHEREAS, Before his election to the DuPage County Board in 2006, Representative Connelly served for 6 years as a trustee on the Village of Lisle Board of Trustees; he initiated and spearheaded the award-winning Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex project, a joint venture partnership between the Village and the University; for his efforts, the Daily Herald named Representative Connelly "Man of the Year" in 2004; and

WHEREAS, In 2007, Representative Connelly received the Award of Excellence in Government from the Illinois State Crime Commission; in 2008, he was awarded the Bishop Sheil Award from the Illinois Police Athletic League; and

WHEREAS, Representative Connelly was recently awarded the Illinois Chamber of Commerce 2011-2012 "Champion of Free Enterprise" for demonstrating a commitment to legislation that frees the entrepreneurial spirit; and

WHEREAS, Representative Connelly's first bill passed changed the procurement procedure in Illinois to allow for reverse online auctions; and

WHEREAS, Representative Connelly has his own cable TV show, the DuPage Report; and

WHEREAS, During Representative Connelly's tenure in the House of Representatives, he has served on the Judiciary I - Civil Law Committee, the Business Occupational Licenses Committee, the Public Utilities Committee, the Small Business Empowerment & Workforce Committee, the Financial Institutions Committee, the Veterans' Affairs Committee, the Health Care Availability Access Committee, the Appropriations-Public Safety Committee, the Business Occupational Licenses Committee, and the Tourism & Conventions Committee; and

WHEREAS, Representative Connelly and his wife Lisa are the proud parents of 3 children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Representative Michael Connelly on his time in the General Assembly and recognize the commitment he's made to the people of his district; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Connelly as an expression of our esteem and respect.
