| 4 | | "Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 356z.19 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (215 ILCS 5/356z.19 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 356z.19. Maternity care. An individual or group policy |
| 8 | | of accident and health insurance or managed care plan amended, |
| 9 | | delivered, issued, or renewed after the effective date of this |
| 10 | | amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly must provide |
| 11 | | coverage for maternity care, including prenatal and post-natal |
| 12 | | care and
care for complication of pregnancy of a mother and |
| 13 | | care with respect to a newborn child from the moment of birth, |
| 14 | | which shall include the care and treatment of illness, injury, |
| 15 | | congenital defects, birth abnormalities, and premature birth. |
| 16 | | The provisions of this Section do not apply to short-term |
