| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Ronald H. Sass of Roselle, who passed |
| 4 | | away on December 20, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Hilmer Sass was born in Berwyn, on May 31, |
| 6 | | 1943, to
Hilmer and Winifred "Peg" Sass; he was baptized as a |
| 7 | | child on October 6,
1943, with his sister Donna Mae, at Trinity |
| 8 | | Lutheran Church
in Willow Springs (now Burr Ridge); and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He was instructed in the
Lutheran faith at Trinity |
| 10 | | Lutheran in Willow Springs and confirmed his
faith on April |
| 11 | | 14,1957; he attended the Palisades
Elementary School in Willow |
| 12 | | Springs; he was a graduate of Lyons
Township South High School |
| 13 | | in Western Springs and then attended Eureka
College; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He served his country in the United States Air
|
| 15 | | Force from 1962 to 1965; he was stationed in New Mexico, |
| 16 | | Okinawa, and
Thailand; he was involved as a member of American |
| 17 | | Legion Post 1084; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, He worked as a salesman for Peabody Industrials of |
| 19 | | England selling
capital equipment to the aluminum and steel |
| 20 | | industry; he became a
purchasing agent for Genco-GFG Peabody, a |
| 21 | | manufacturer of coil coating
equipment, in West Sussex, |

| 1 | | Wisconsin; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, He met the woman of his life, Christine Birdsall, |
| 3 | | an owner of a travel
agency, on a blind date set up by his |
| 4 | | friends at work; on
September 9, 1967, they were married at the |
| 5 | | Elmhurst United Church of
Christ; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was the senior trustee on the Village Board of |
| 7 | | Roselle,
serving for 24 years; from 1985 to 1987, he was a |
| 8 | | member of the Zoning
Board of Appeals; he was a Roselle |
| 9 | | delegate to the referendum advisory
committee of the DuPage |
| 10 | | Water Commission in 1985; he was appointed
to the committee of |
| 11 | | the Northern DuPage Cable Television Agency and the
Roselle |
| 12 | | Sister City Commission, which sent him as a representative to |
| 13 | | Bochnia, Poland; he also served as mayor pro tem several times; |
| 14 | | and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, good |
| 16 | | music, and traveling; he was a member of Trinity Lutheran |
| 17 | | Church in Roselle; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Sass is survived by his wife, Christine; |
| 19 | | his son, Richard; his mother, Peg; his sisters,
Donna Mae |
| 20 | | (Edward) Mersch and Peggy (Norval "Bud") Barger; his brother,
|
| 21 | | Robert H. (Poppi) Sass; his brother-in-law, James (Sandra) |
| 22 | | Birdsall; and many
nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be |

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 4 | | his family and friends, the passing of Ronald Sass; and be it |
| 5 | | further
|
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to the family of Ronald Sass as a symbol of our |
| 8 | | sincere sympathy.
