SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles L. Miner of Naperville, who passed away on February 1, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born July 6, 1928 in Shelbyville, the son of the late Lester and Thirza Miner; he grew up in Chicago, attended Morgan Park High School, and was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana; and

WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving in a counterintelligence unit at the University of Chicago; he was manager at Industrial Oil & Chemical Company in Rockford for 23 years and worked his last 20 years in the insurance industry for National Benefit Brokers before retiring; and

WHEREAS, He loved books and was an active member and officer in the Caxton Club, Chicago's oldest society for book lovers and collectors; his interests also included horses; he served as a riding instructor at The Midway Academy in the 1950s; he was an active member at The DuPage Center for Spiritual Living; and

WHEREAS, Charles Miner was the beloved husband of Jean (nee Showers) Miner, whom he married June 30, 1979; he was the loving father of William (Pam) Miner and Nancy (David) Nilsen; he was the cherished grandfather of David (Ashley), Andrew (Amy), Matthew and Sarah Miner; he was the fond great-grandfather of Cameron Miner; he was the dear brother of Thomas (Lucyna) Miner and Ruth McDade; and he was the fond uncle of Robert Miner, William Miner, Diane McDade, and Grace (Bob) Babikian; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Charles Miner; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Miner as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
