| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Social workers are highly skilled and motivated | ||||||
| 3 | professionals who dedicate their careers to helping people make | ||||||
| 4 | positive changes in their lives; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, There are more than 640,000 trained social work | ||||||
| 6 | professionals in the United States and more than 12,000 in | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois who work tirelessly in private and public social | ||||||
| 8 | services agencies, hospitals, hospices, schools, universities, | ||||||
| 9 | legislatures, private practices, corporations, and the | ||||||
| 10 | military; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Social workers improve the fabric of society by | ||||||
| 12 | advocating for accessibility, equality, fairness, and care for | ||||||
| 13 | individuals and families who are the most vulnerable in | ||||||
| 14 | society; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Social workers help people explore new | ||||||
| 16 | opportunities in the face of serious life changes and | ||||||
| 17 | challenges; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The social work profession was established more | ||||||
| 19 | than 100 years ago to help Americans overcome poverty, illness, | ||||||
| 20 | addiction, abuse, discrimination, and other adversities to | ||||||
| 21 | reach their full potential; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The social work profession works to change systems | ||||||
| 2 | and customs that limit the ability of vulnerable individuals | ||||||
| 3 | and groups to lead fulfilling and productive lives; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Schools of social work train socially-conscious | ||||||
| 5 | people to make a real difference in the world through service | ||||||
| 6 | and leadership; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Social workers strengthen communities, expand | ||||||
| 8 | options, and work to facilitate humane changes in policies and | ||||||
| 9 | legislation that improve the lives of everyone; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Social workers begin each day believing they will | ||||||
| 11 | give an individual, a family, or a community renewed hope in | ||||||
| 12 | the future; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the month | ||||||
| 15 | of March as Social Work Month in the State of Illinois; and be | ||||||
| 16 | it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the National Association of Social | ||||||
| 19 | Workers-Illinois Chapter with our sincere appreciation for | ||||||
| 20 | their efforts.
