| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
Catherine Wells of Chicago; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Catherine Wells was a lifelong Chicagoan; as a |
| 5 | | child, she lived in the Austin area and attended Leslie Lewis |
| 6 | | Elementary School and Providence High School; she subsequently |
| 7 | | graduated from Chicago Teachers College and received her |
| 8 | | master's degree and her doctorate from Loyola University; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Catherine Wells |
| 10 | | began working at Schmidt School as a teacher librarian; she |
| 11 | | subsequently worked as a counselor at Louisa May Alcott School, |
| 12 | | where she was picked to serve as an assistant principal on |
| 13 | | March 24, 1971; on April 9, 1973, she was appointed to serve as |
| 14 | | principal of the James D. Farnsworth Elementary School, where |
| 15 | | she worked for almost 38 years; during her tenure at James D. |
| 16 | | Farnsworth Elementary School, she earned a great reputation for |
| 17 | | her commitment to excellence and her helpful nature; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Catherine Wells received numerous awards during |
| 19 | | her career, including the prestigious Whitman Award for |
| 20 | | Excellence in Education Management; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Catherine Wells enjoyed traveling all over the |
