| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Elizabeth Ann Briggs of Granite City, who |
| 4 | | passed away on June 17, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, She graduated from Olney High School, where she |
| 6 | | was crowned homecoming queen of her senior class; she attended |
| 7 | | McKendree College, where she was a cheerleader and played |
| 8 | | basketball; she won the college's "Couple Ping Pong |
| 9 | | Championship" 2 years in a row with her sweetheart "Gene"; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, She was a volunteer in the community for many |
| 11 | | years and received many awards and recognition, including "The |
| 12 | | Citizen of the Year Award" for Granite City and President |
| 13 | | Bush's "Point of Light Award" for Madison County; she was a |
| 14 | | member of Niedringhaus United Methodist Church in Granite City |
| 15 | | and was active with the Sarah Circle and Church Women United; |
| 16 | | and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, She was a member of the Elkettes and a devoted |
| 18 | | member of the Teachers Sorority; she was a volunteer at Gateway |
| 19 | | Regional Medical Center for many years, serving as |
| 20 | | vice-president and president of the Auxiliary 3 times; she and |
| 21 | | her husband enjoyed bowling, traveling, and vacations to every |
| 22 | | state as well as overseas; and |
