SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sharon Lee Gromala-Walton, who passed
4away on July 17, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born December 21, 1952 in Chicago; she
6married Gene Walton on July 24, 1976; and
 
7    WHEREAS, She committed herself to the service of others;
8she started her career in social work as a teenage counselor at
9Gadshill Settlement House in the heart of the Chicago
10community; inspired by this work, she pursued her undergraduate
11degree at Southern Illinois University in 1974 and earned her
12master's degree from the University of Illinois in 1976; she
13retired in 2010 after 35 years as a social worker with the
14Waukegan Public Schools and joined Family Partnership to
15provide early intervention services to many families in the
16Lake County area; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 2007, she received the State of Illinois
18"Social Worker of the Year" award and the "Midwest Social
19Worker of the Year" award; and
 
20    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward
21and Irene (Vaclena) Gromala; her sister, Victoria; and her

1brother, Edward J. (Tamara) Gromala; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Sharon Lee Gromala-Walton is survived by her
3loving husband, Gene; her sons, Jared (Yadira) and Jordan
4(Abbey) Walton; her granddaughter, Ayanna Milan; her sister,
5Thaddine (Al) Gomez; her nieces and nephews, Sam, Vicky,
6Maggie, Lourdes, and Lauren; and many other nieces, nephews,
7cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10her family and friends, the passing of Sharon Lee
11Gromala-Walton; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Sharon Lee Gromala-Walton as a
14symbol of our sincere sympathy.
