SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Rodger Edward Welker, D.D.S., of Naples, Florida, formerly of Waukegan, who passed away on August 17, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born April 15, 1939 in Waukegan, a son of the late Sylvester and Stephanie (Koper) Welker; he served in the United States Air Force; he graduated from Marquette Dental School in 1965 and served his Dental Residency at Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee County Hospital); and

WHEREAS, Dr. Welker owned his private dental practice in Waukegan from 1969 to 2006; he was a life member of the American Dental Society and the Chicago Dental Society; Dr. Welker was active in the North Suburban Branch of the Chicago Dental Society and the Waukegan Dental Study Group; and

WHEREAS, He was an avid boater and fisherman, fishing all over the world including: Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, the Bahamas, and Belize; he was a life member and Past Commodore of the Waukegan Yacht Club, a member of the Glen Flora Country Club, where he headed Trap Shooting, and a member of the Waukegan Port Authority for 15 years where he served as Chairman of the Board for the last 5 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Welker enjoyed spending his summers for the last 40 years aboard his boat "Doc's Inn."; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Rodger Welker is survived by his loving wife Sandra (Post) Welker; his daughters, Sara Welker and Megan (Jeremy Pincombe) Welker; his granddaughters, Madeline and Julia; and his sister, Diana (Bruce) Pecaro; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Rodger Welker; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Rodger Welker as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
