|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Donald Emmette Bradley of Chicago, who |
| 4 | | passed away on August 20, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Donald Emmette Bradley was born December 25, 1931 |
| 6 | | in St. Louis, Missouri; he was the oldest of 7 children born to |
| 7 | | the union of Emmit and Ollie Mae Bradley; he attended Simmons |
| 8 | | Elementary School and Sumner High School in St. Louis; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 with |
| 10 | | the 24th Infantry; shortly after completing basic training, he |
| 11 | | was sent to battle in the Korean War, where he was injured; he |
| 12 | | was Honorably Discharged in 1952 and awarded several medals, |
| 13 | | including the distinguished Purple Heart; he moved to Chicago |
| 14 | | in 1957; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, He had many occupations, which included being a |
| 16 | | DJ, bar manager, and clothing and liquor salesman; before his |
| 17 | | retirement in 2001, he had worked in the liquor sales business |
| 18 | | for over 30 years; he was a salesman for the Stroh Brewery |
| 19 | | Company and District Manager for the African-American Market of |
| 20 | | Heineken USA; he then became a licensed locksmith in 2002 and |
| 21 | | operated his own locksmith business; and |
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, He was a member of Logos Baptist Church; he was |
| 2 | | the Chairman of the Business Committee for the Senior Community |
| 3 | | Club; he had a passion for photography, the latest technology, |
| 4 | | music, traveling, and mentoring youth; he was known as "Uncle |
| 5 | | Donald" by many of the neighborhood kids; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmit and |
| 7 | | Ollie Mae Bradley; four brothers: Joseph Bradley, Percy |
| 8 | | Bradley, Irving Bradley, and Larry Bradley; and two sisters: |
| 9 | | Barbara Jean Givens and Mary Bradley; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He leaves to celebrate his life one son, Danny |
| 11 | | Gray; 4 daughters, Stacey Algreen, Makiba Johnson (Clifford, |
| 12 | | Jr.), Kiyona Bradley-Thomas (Mark), and Lamika Obichere |
| 13 | | (Tomeke); one step-daughter, Rhonda Smith (Michael); one |
| 14 | | sister, Shirley Bradley; 2 brothers, Kenneth Bradley and Joe |
| 15 | | Bradley; 11 grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, |
| 16 | | nephews, cousins, god children, and friends; therefore, be it
|
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 19 | | his family and friends, the passing of Donald Bradley; and be |
| 20 | | it further

| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the family of Donald Bradley as a symbol of our |
