| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
Anthony L. Smith of Springfield, who |
| 4 | | passed away on November 6, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Smith was born on August 15, 1967, in |
| 6 | | Springfield; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Smith earned his associate's degree in |
| 8 | | culinary arts from Joliet Junior College and his bachelor's |
| 9 | | degree in hotel and restaurant management from Western Illinois |
| 10 | | University; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Smith was employed as a teacher's aide at |
| 12 | | Matheny-Withrow Elementary School for the past 2 years; he was |
| 13 | | also employed at Lindsey's Restaurant in the President Abraham |
| 14 | | Lincoln Hotel for 17 years; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Smith was a faithful member of Grace |
| 16 | | United Methodist Church, where he regularly participated with |
| 17 | | the young adults to host various fundraisers to give back to |
| 18 | | the church; he spearheaded the Annual Mostaccioli Dinner and |
| 19 | | the Senior Dinner, where he enjoyed creating menus and |
| 20 | | displaying his world famous culinary talents to feed the Grace |
| 21 | | Church family and friends; he also facilitated the Black |
|

| 1 | | History Month activities each February, where he directed |
| 2 | | weekly themed activities, coordinated guest speakers and |
| 3 | | generated positive enthusiasm for African American history; he |
| 4 | | was also a member of Alpha Phi Omega, the National Service |
| 5 | | Fraternity, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Smith loved to travel, spend time with his |
| 7 | | family and friends, and cooking; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Smith is preceded in death by his father, |
| 9 | | George Smith Jr.; his mother, Barbara Jean Bell; and his |
| 10 | | brother, Timmy Bell; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Smith is survived by his stepmother, |
| 12 | | Gladys Mae Smith; his brother, Raynard Smith; his brothers, |
| 13 | | Tommy (Glendora) Bell, Charles (Kim) Bell, and Perry Johnson; |
| 14 | | his stepsister, Mary (Fred) Nunn; and his many nieces, nephews, |
| 15 | | other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 18 | | his family and friends, the passing of Anthony L. Smith; and be |
| 19 | | it further

| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to the family of Anthony Smith as an expression of |
