| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Joseph Gutierrez of Joliet, who passed |
| 4 | | away on September 20, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born December 17, 1921 in Temple, Texas; he |
| 6 | | graduated from Joliet Township High School class of 1940; he |
| 7 | | was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 5th Army Air |
| 8 | | Corps in the South Pacific; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He was a life member of V.F.W. Cantigny Post #367, |
| 10 | | American Legion Harwood Post #5, a Founder of American Legion |
| 11 | | Post #1284, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge |
| 12 | | #300; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Following his tour of duty, he returned to Joliet |
| 14 | | and formed Joey's Latin Combo; he was a member of many |
| 15 | | orchestras and bands including the Joliet Symphony Orchestra, |
| 16 | | Joliet Symphonetts, the Bicentennial Park Pops Orchestra, a |
| 17 | | founding member of the American Legion Band, a 20-year member |
| 18 | | of the Lewis Symphony, a 21-year member of the Joliet Junior |
| 19 | | College Band, and he played with the Mariachi Potosino for 20 |
| 20 | | years; he was a member of the American Federations of Musicians |
| 21 | | for over 50 years; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, He was the first bugler at Abraham Lincoln |
| 2 | | National Cemetery; he volunteered at the Will County Health |
| 3 | | Center as a translator; along with his siblings he volunteered |
| 4 | | for mission trips with Eye Care International; he was retired |
| 5 | | from Commonwealth Edison Braidwood Nuclear Power; he was a |
| 6 | | charter member of Judson Memorial Baptist Church; he was a |
| 7 | | founder of the Ceco Recreation Club; and he was also an avid |
| 8 | | sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, the White Sox, and the |
| 9 | | Bears; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his loving wife, |
| 11 | | Genevieve R. Gutierrez (nee Smeets); his son, Ron; and his |
| 12 | | parents, Natividad and Felipa Gutierrez; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Gutierrez was the beloved father of Rick |
| 14 | | Gutierrez, Karyn Benson, Sharon McDonald, and Kimberly (Jay) |
| 15 | | Creasey; he was the loving grandfather of Michael, Matthew, |
| 16 | | Maitlyn Creasey, Melissa (Steve) Breen, Kristen (Al) |
| 17 | | Dominguez, Jeffrey (Ashley) Benson, Amanda (Gary) Birnbaum, |
| 18 | | and Jason Olivera; he also had 11 great-grandchildrenp; he |
| 19 | | leaves to cherish his memory his brothers and sisters, Hope |
| 20 | | Angeles, David (Carmen) Gutierrez, Carmela Camarena, Tony |
| 21 | | (Dorathy) Gutierrez, Jesse (Donna) Gutierrez, Robert (Barbara) |
| 22 | | Gutierrez, Rachel Prado, and Dr. Daniel (Barbara) Gutierrez; he |
| 23 | | is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; |
| 24 | | therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 3 | | his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Gutierrez; and be |
| 4 | | it further
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 | | presented to the family of Joseph Gutierrez as a symbol of our |
| 7 | | sincere sympathy.
