| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
Philip S. Hanrahan, who passed away on |
| 4 | | April 17, 2012; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan was born on August 7, 1927, in |
| 6 | | Keene, New Hampshire; he was the son of Walter F. and Mary |
| 7 | | Agnes (Grogan) Hanrahan; he married Bessie Robb on August 27, |
| 8 | | 1949, in Ashwillet, New Hampshire; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan served his country with pride and |
| 10 | | distinction as a member of the United States Navy during World |
| 11 | | War II; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan earned his associate degree in |
| 13 | | building construction from Wentworth Institution in Boston; |
| 14 | | and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan was employed as a salesman in the |
| 16 | | tape division at Nashua Corporation for 27 years; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan served as Alderman of Alton's 2nd |
| 18 | | Ward for many years until his retirement in May of 2009; he |
| 19 | | also served as Civil Service Commissioner in Alton for 5 years |
| 20 | | and as a member of Alton's Board of Housing Directors for one |

| 1 | | year; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, During Philip Hanrahan's tenure as Alderman, the |
| 3 | | Alton City Council reduced the number of aldermen from 14 to 7; |
| 4 | | started development of Riverfront Park, the former Alton Belle |
| 5 | | Casino, Clark Bridge, and 2 new firehouses; made renovations on |
| 6 | | Alton City Hall; and oversaw the building of the new U.S. Route |
| 7 | | 67 through Alton and the Donald E. Sandidge Alton Law |
| 8 | | Enforcement Center, among other projects; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan was a member of St. Mary's |
| 10 | | Catholic Church in Alton and served as an usher for over 30 |
| 11 | | years; he was also a member of the East End Improvement |
| 12 | | Association and was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of |
| 13 | | Columbus No. 460; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan was preceded in death by his |
| 15 | | parents; his brothers, Thomas and Joseph Hanrahan; and his |
| 16 | | sister, Mary Regan; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Philip Hanrahan is survived by his wife, Bessie; |
| 18 | | his children and their spouses, Adele Annes, Susan (Donald) |
| 19 | | Ullmann, Betsy Hanrahan, and Michael Hanrahan; his |
| 20 | | grandchildren, Alexia (David) Ellett, Khari Annes, Evan Annes, |
| 21 | | Tim Ullmann, Kevin Ullmann, Emily Ullmann, Grant Harkins, Corey |
| 22 | | Harkins, Brittany Harkins, Kayla Hanrahan, Erin Hanrahan, and |
|

| 1 | | Patrick Hanrahan; and his great-granddaughters, Aubrey and |
| 2 | | Brynn Ellett; therefore, be it
|
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 5 | | his family and friends, the passing of Philip S. Hanrahan; and |
| 6 | | be it further
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Philip Hanrahan as an expression of |
| 9 | | our sympathy.
