| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply | ||||||
| 3 | saddened to learn of the death of Dana J. "Double D" Davis of | ||||||
| 4 | Peoria, who passed away on October 3, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dana Davis was born on September 25, 1956, in | ||||||
| 6 | Peoria to Shirley "Jean" (Meischner) Davis and William "Mecie" | ||||||
| 7 | Davis; he graduated from Manual High School and Bradley | ||||||
| 8 | University; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dana Davis was afforded great career | ||||||
| 10 | opportunities which included, Vice President of Basketball | ||||||
| 11 | Operations Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies, tour manager for funk | ||||||
| 12 | legend, Bootsy Collins, Peoria District 150 basketball coach at | ||||||
| 13 | Manuel High School and football coach at Woodruff High School, | ||||||
| 14 | IHSA basketball/baseball official, Wildmer Office Supply, and | ||||||
| 15 | GR Becker Companies; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dana Davis was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King | ||||||
| 17 | Jr., Commemorative Service Award and was an inductee of the | ||||||
| 18 | Peoria African American Hall of Fame; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Dana Davis was the founder of the Mitchell "JJ" | ||||||
| 20 | Anderson All Star Basketball Camp, member of the Bradley B Club | ||||||
| 21 | board of directors, member of the Peoria Tri-County Urban | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | League board of directors, Peoria Boys and Girls Clubs, and | ||||||
| 2 | board member of the Peoria County Board; he was on the board of | ||||||
| 3 | directors of the National Civil Rights Museum; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Dana Davis was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church | ||||||
| 5 | in Peoria; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dana Davis was preceded in death by his parents, | ||||||
| 7 | William and Shirley Davis; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dana Davis is survived by his family, Virginia | ||||||
| 9 | Alexander, James Watson, John (Renada) Davis Fitzgerald, | ||||||
| 10 | Juanita Sherry Mason, Marie Taylor, Alphonso Alexander Jr., and | ||||||
| 11 | Jo Ann (Manzell) Alexander-Lawson; his friends, Graylin | ||||||
| 12 | McLeod, Bobby Humbles, Mitchell "JJ" Anderson, and Wayne | ||||||
| 13 | McClain; and a host of other relatives and friends; therefore, | ||||||
| 14 | be it

| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 17 | Dana Davis, and we extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 18 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 19 | further

| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Dana Davis as an expression of our | ||||||
