| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply |
| 3 | | saddened to learn of the death of Mario J. Perez of Woodstock, |
| 4 | | who passed away on October 31, 2012; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mario Perez was born on January 19, 1935, in |
| 6 | | Seneca to Carmen and Jose Perez; he was raised in Marseilles |
| 7 | | and then moved to Chicago in the 1940s; he attended St. |
| 8 | | Patrick's Academy in Chicago on a basketball scholarship and |
| 9 | | graduated in 1953; he attended the University of Illinois-Navy |
| 10 | | Pier from 1953-1955, and graduated from the University of |
| 11 | | Illinois-Urbana in 1957, with a history major and a minor in |
| 12 | | anthropology; he obtained his Juris Doctor from DePaul |
| 13 | | University College of Law in 1960, was a member of the Phi |
| 14 | | Alpha Delta law fraternity, and served in the U.S. Army |
| 15 | | Reserves; he married Esther Peterson of Ames, Iowa at Our Lady |
| 16 | | of Mount Carmel Church in Chicago on May 8, 1965; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Mario Perez began practicing law in Chicago at CNA |
| 18 | | Insurance Co. in 1960; after 9 years, he moved to Woodstock to |
| 19 | | work at the law offices of Josyln and Green and then started a |
| 20 | | private practice that continued until 2012; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Mario Perez was a member of the McHenry and Lake |
| 22 | | County bar associations and was a founding member of the |
|

| 1 | | Mexican American Lawyers Association and the Latin American Bar |
| 2 | | Association, which is know known as the Hispanic Lawyers |
| 3 | | Association of Illinois; he was involved in many organizations |
| 4 | | aimed at promoting people's knowledge and understanding of |
| 5 | | Hispanic heritage, as well as mental health and human relations |
| 6 | | issues, including the McHenry County Latino Coalition, McHenry |
| 7 | | County College Hispanic Advisory Council, founding member of |
| 8 | | the McHenry County Mental Health Board, McHenry County Human |
| 9 | | Relations Council (chairman), Consumer Credit Counseling |
| 10 | | Services, Bull Valley Association, and the Illinois |
| 11 | | Storytellers Festival; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Mario Perez's passions included sports, books, |
| 13 | | and learning; he had interests in European and Latin American |
| 14 | | history and culture, anthropology, genealogy, nature, |
| 15 | | wildlife, fishing, carpentry, wine, family, music, dancing, |
| 16 | | and getting lost on the back roads of Illinois and Iowa; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Mario Perez was preceded in death by his parents, |
| 18 | | Carmen and Jose Perez; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Mario Perez is survived by his wife, Esther; his |
| 20 | | sons, Paul (Gasia) and David; his daughter, Christine; his 2 |
| 21 | | grandsons; his sisters, Mamie Guerra and Carmen "Lito" Perez; |
| 22 | | his brothers, Jesse (Lin) Perez, Ignatius "Nacho" Perez, |
| 23 | | Russell Perez, and John (Sandy) Williams; and his numerous |
|

| 1 | | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
|
| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 4 | | Mario Perez, and we extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 5 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 6 | | further
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Mario Perez as an expression of our |
| 9 | | deepest sympathy.
