| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Allen J. Oehlert of Chatham, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on December 30, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert was born on June 3, 1947, in Melrose | ||||||
| 6 | Park; his parents were Walter J. and Dorothy Welch Oehlert; he | ||||||
| 7 | married Sara Lamos on June 5, 1971; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert earned his master's degree in | ||||||
| 9 | political science from Northern Illinois University in 1972 and | ||||||
| 10 | his juris doctor from the Southern Illinois University School | ||||||
| 11 | of Law in 1976; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert served the people of the State of | ||||||
| 13 | Illinois as an attorney and law librarian at the Legislative | ||||||
| 14 | Reference Bureau from 2004 until his passing; prior to his | ||||||
| 15 | service at LRB, he was a partner in the private practice of | ||||||
| 16 | Lowenstein, Hagen, Oehlert, and Smith, P.C. from 1977 to 2000 | ||||||
| 17 | and an administrative law judge with the Illinois Educational | ||||||
| 18 | Labor Relations Board from 2000 to 2003; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert was a member of the historic Grace | ||||||
| 20 | Evangelical Lutheran Church and formerly served as Vice | ||||||
| 21 | President of the Congregation; he was also a former legal | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | counsel for the Central/Southern Illinois Synod of the | ||||||
| 2 | Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a member of the | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois State Bar Association; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert enjoyed cooking, gardening, | ||||||
| 5 | canoeing, and hiking; he was also an avid photographer and a | ||||||
| 6 | member of the Springfield Photography Club and the Studio on | ||||||
| 7 | 6th Artist Co-op; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 9 | parents; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert is survived by his loving wife, | ||||||
| 11 | Sara; his wonderful children, Matthew (Amie) Oehlert, | ||||||
| 12 | Elizabeth (Vladimir) Avila, Emily (Aaron) Dufrene, and | ||||||
| 13 | Katherine (Phillip) Galloway; his grandchildren, Marcelina, | ||||||
| 14 | Gus, and Amelia Oehlert, Lucas Avila, Finn and Sophia Dufrene, | ||||||
| 15 | and Seraphina Galloway; his brother-in-law, Mark (Jerry Jones) | ||||||
| 16 | Lamos; and his beloved dogs, Burt and Madison; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert will be remembered fondly by his | ||||||
| 18 | family and friends as a caring and generous man whose love of | ||||||
| 19 | life and great dedication to his family was evident to all; | ||||||
| 20 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||

| 1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 2 | his family and friends, the passing of Allen J. Oehlert; and be | ||||||
| 3 | it further
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 5 | presented to the family of Allen Oehlert as an expression of | ||||||
| 6 | our sympathy.
