Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that for the duration of a road construction project, the Department of Transportation shall erect signage directing the public to each business impacted by the construction project. Provides that the signage shall: (1) inform the public that the business is open and accessible; and (2) direct the public to alternative places and routes for parking. Provides that the Department shall adopt rules to implement the new provisions.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
|
5 | | Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing |
6 | | Section 2705-505 and by adding Section 2705-610 as follows:
|

Signs indicating travel-related facilities |
9 | | or
tourist-oriented businesses. The Department shall, where
|
10 | | economically
feasible and safe,
install along various |
11 | | interstate highways and other freeways with full
control of |
12 | | access, except those that are toll highways, signs to
alert
|
13 | | motorists of the travel-related facilities available in |
14 | | communities served
by upcoming interstate exits. The |
15 | | Department may also install, along other
rural State highways, |
16 | | signs to alert motorists of the tourist-oriented
businesses |
17 | | available on intersecting highways and roads under local
|
18 | | jurisdiction in rural areas. Subject to the conditions set |
19 | | forth under Section 2705-610 of this Law, the The Department |
20 | | has the
authority to
sell or lease space on the signs to the |
21 | | owners or operators of the
facilities
and to promulgate rules |
22 | | and regulations for the leasing or purchasing of space.
