1    AN ACT concerning violence prevention.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Violence Prevention Task Force Act.
 
6    Section 5. Violence Prevention Task Force; members.
7    (a) There is created the Violence Prevention Task Force
8(hereinafter referred to as the Task Force) consisting of 6
9members appointed as follows:
10            (1) one member of the Senate appointed by the
11        President of the Senate;
12            (2) one member of the Senate appointed by the
13        Minority Leader of the Senate;
14            (3) one member of the House of Representatives
15        appointed by the Speaker of the House of
16        Representatives;
17            (4) one member of the House of Representatives
18        appointed by the Minority Leader of the House of
19        Representatives; and
20            (5) 2 members appointed by the Governor one of whom
21        shall be designated the chairperson by the Governor.
22    (b) The members of the Task Force shall serve without
23compensation but shall be reimbursed for their reasonable and

1necessary expenses from funds appropriated for that purpose.
2    (c) The Task Force may employ skilled experts with the
3approval of the chairperson, and shall receive the cooperation
4of those State agencies it deems appropriate to assist the Task
5Force in carrying out its duties.
6    (d) The Illinois African American Family Commission, the
7Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Illinois Latino
8Family Commission shall provide administrative and other
9support to the Task Force.
 
10    Section 10. Violence Prevention Task Force; duties. The
11Task Force shall have the following duties:
12    (1) to increase awareness of resources, jobs, and
13opportunities to prevent violence in this State;
14    (2) to assist violence prevention groups, religious
15institutions, social lodges, community groups, block clubs,
16and other groups in providing safe havens for children, youth,
17young adults, and seniors;
18    (3) to create, develop, and implement recreational,
19social, and educational initiatives for at-risk youth;
20    (4) to organize community mental health providers in
21at-risk communities;
22    (5) to provide State resources to public schools to assist
23with behavioral health; and
24    (6) to assist in providing jobs, resources, and
25opportunities for at-risk youth so as to prevent them from

1committing crimes.
 
2    Section 15. Report to the Governor and General Assembly.
3The Task Force shall report to the Governor and the General
4Assembly, by December 1 of each year, its activities for the
5previous year.
 
6    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
7becoming law.
