2 | | WHEREAS, Computer Science provides a foundation for |
3 | | virtually any career and most people benefit from learning the |
4 | | basics of Computer Science; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Software jobs outnumber Computer Science students |
6 | | 3 to 1 and there is a one million job gap over the past decade |
7 | | between open jobs in Computer Science and qualified candidates; |
8 | | and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Ninety percent of schools in the United States do |
10 | | not teach Computer Science; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Many countries, including China, Vietnam, and |
12 | | Estonia, require Computer Science classes for all students; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Fewer than 10% of students in the United States |
14 | | try to learn basic Computer Science; of these students, only 2% |
15 | | are women and only 1% are students of color; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, The week of December 9th through the 15th, 2013 is |
17 | | Computer Science Education Week organized by the Computing in |
18 | | the Core coalition; therefore, be it
