| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is appropriate for us to remember the many |
| 3 | | sacrifices and contributions to the cause of freedom made by |
| 4 | | the outstanding men and women who serve in combat and give the |
| 5 | | ultimate sacrifice; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Jordan |
| 7 | | B. Emrick of Hoyleton was killed in action defending America's |
| 8 | | freedom in Afghanistan on November 5, 2010; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick was born on December |
| 10 | | 19, 1983 in Centralia to Terry and Doris (nee Seeger) Emrick; |
| 11 | | and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick graduated from |
| 13 | | Nashville High School in 2002; he attended Trinity Lutheran |
| 14 | | Church and was an avid skydiver and enjoyed sailing; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick served in the United |
| 16 | | States Marine Corps with the 1st Explosives Ordinance Disposal |
| 17 | | Company, a unit based in Camp Pendleton, California, that is |
| 18 | | currently serving in Afghanistan; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick was a highly |
| 20 | | decorated Marine who enlisted shortly after the September 11th |

| 1 | | attacks; he had previously served one deployment in the Persian |
| 2 | | Gulf and 2 deployments in Iraq; and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick is survived by his |
| 4 | | parents, Terry and Doris; his brother; Brandon (Kimberly) |
| 5 | | Emrick; his sisters, Christi (Ryan) Payne and Brittany |
| 6 | | (Anthony) Aussieker; his grandmother, Edith Seeger; and his |
| 7 | | many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick will be remembered by |
| 9 | | all who knew and loved him for his selfless dedication to his |
| 10 | | Marine brethren by volunteering for ordinance disposal duty; |
| 11 | | and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick's patriotism and |
| 13 | | courage will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his |
| 14 | | fellow soldiers, and the citizens of our grateful nation; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that we pay honor and respect |
| 16 | | to the truly great individuals who have served our country, |
| 17 | | and, in doing so, have gone above and beyond the call of duty |
| 18 | | to take part in truly heroic tasks; therefore, be it
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 20 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
| 21 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 177 |

| 1 | | between Hoyleton and New Minden the "SSgt. Jordan Emrick |
| 2 | | Memorial Highway"; and be it further
|
| 3 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
| 4 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with |
| 5 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs |
| 6 | | giving notice of the name of the "SSgt. Jordan Emrick Memorial |
| 7 | | Highway"; and be it further
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Jordan Emrick and to |
| 10 | | the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
