| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
|
| 3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
|
| 4 | | lives in the line of duty; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Illinois State Trooper Bernard Delano "Bernie" |
| 6 | | Skeeters's last watch occurred on May 20, 1982 when his patrol |
| 7 | | car was struck from behind by a tractor trailer on Interstate |
| 8 | | 55 near Williamsville; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Trooper Skeeters was working a safety detail |
| 10 | | patrolling on southbound I-55 behind a paint truck when a |
| 11 | | semi-trailer slammed into his squad car from behind forcing his |
| 12 | | car into the paint truck in front of him; the 3-vehicle |
| 13 | | accident instantly killed Trooper Skeeters; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Trooper Skeeters became an Illinois State Troper |
| 15 | | on March 9, 1970 and served for 12 years; he was assigned to |
| 16 | | District 9 in Springfield; he was the youngest of 15 children |
| 17 | | to Joseph Edward and Grace Rosalie (nee Whitcomb) Skeeters; he |
| 18 | | was survived by his wife, Marie, and their 3 sons, Tom, Ron, |
| 19 | | and the late Andy; therefore, be it
