HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate William H. Rahn on the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Village of Westmont; and

WHEREAS, William Rahn was born and raised in Westmont; he earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing and earned masters degrees in special education and administration and counseling from Northern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, William Rahn began his life in public service as the volunteer chairperson for the Westmont Cable Television Committee in the 1980s; as chairperson, he and the other commissioners were successful in negotiating the initial cable contract that brought cable TV service to the community and leveraged the creation of a state-of-the-art television production studio and related services to the Village of Westmont, enabling Westmont to be one of the area leaders in using cable TV to record and playback government meetings; he also served as a chairperson of the Village of Westmont Planning and Zoning Commission and member of several other committees and was an active member of the DuPage Mayor's and Managers Conference; and

WHEREAS, William Rahn first ran for elected office in 1983, when he was elected to the position of Village Trustee; after 4 terms as Trustee, he was elected to the position of Mayor in 1999, where he remained until his retirement; as Mayor, he emphasized fiduciary responsibility and making sure the village government is run efficiently; he has been a strong advocate of expanding community business development, maintaining quality programs and services for the community, and continuing family-friendly community events; and

WHEREAS, As Mayor and in his personal life, William Rahn has held close relationships with the Westmont Chamber of Commerce, the Westmont Rotary, the Westmont Lions, the Westmont Special Events Corporation, and the Westmont Historical Society, where he was a charter member; and

WHEREAS, William Rahn and his loving wife of 40 years, Jill, have 3 children, Peter, Heidi, and Danika; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate William H. Rahn on the occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to William Rahn as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
