| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Reverend Joe Hubbard on | ||||||
| 4 | his life's accomplishments as a friend to the poor, "miracle" | ||||||
| 5 | worker, and advocate for justice; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard received his reputation for helping | ||||||
| 7 | people early on when as a teenager he would cut grass for the | ||||||
| 8 | elderly, clean up the local barber shop and a small | ||||||
| 9 | confectionary across from Jefferson Grade School, and help out | ||||||
| 10 | the handicapped man who sold papers in front of the school; he | ||||||
| 11 | had begun a lifetime of caring for others, whether
it be his | ||||||
| 12 | family or anyone in need; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard became the youngest member of the | ||||||
| 14 | "older men's" St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Angels | ||||||
| 15 | Church, a group dedicated to helping families and which helped | ||||||
| 16 | out his own family in their time of need; he would make | ||||||
| 17 | reaching out to help the poor, aged, sick, dying, and anyone | ||||||
| 18 | who needed his help into his life's calling; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, In 1973, Rev. Hubbard began serving as the | ||||||
| 20 | coordinator of the newly-established Catholic Urban Programs, | ||||||
| 21 | a position he is still at today; initially a one-man operation, | ||||||
| 22 | it now boosts over 70 full-time and part-time employees who | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | coordinate multiple ministries with the help of many | ||||||
| 2 | volunteers; in his off-hours, he manages Mt. Carmel and Holy | ||||||
| 3 | Cross Cemeteries; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard has earned numerous awards over the | ||||||
| 5 | years; he was nominated for the national Lumen Christi (Light | ||||||
| 6 | of Christ) Award presented by The Catholic Church Extension | ||||||
| 7 | Society and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award | ||||||
| 8 | from SIU-E; he won the coveted Leadership Award presented by | ||||||
| 9 | FOCUS Saint Louis, and many, many others; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard was born 67 years ago to Olga and | ||||||
| 11 | Edward Hubbard; his siblings are Edward Jr., Johnny, and Doris; | ||||||
| 12 | he attended Jefferson Grade School, Lansdowne Junior High | ||||||
| 13 | School, East Saint Louis Senior High School, and Southern | ||||||
| 14 | Illinois University; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we are pleased to honor Reverend Joe Hubbard life's | ||||||
| 18 | accomplishments and wish him well in all of his future | ||||||
| 19 | endeavours; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Reverend Joe Hubbard as an expression of our | ||||||
| 22 | esteem and respect.
