HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Edward Schmit Jr. for his service to the Augustinian Community of St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Edward Schmit Jr. has served St. Rita High School in many ways as an alumnus; he has been a Fathers Club officer and on the Executive Fund Raising Committee; he has served on the Board of Advisors since 1985 and after 25 years accepted a Board of Advisors Emeritus position of which there are only 12; he was intricately involved with the acquisition of the new high school facility; and

WHEREAS, Edward Schmit Jr. has been involved in the larger community outside of St. Rita High School; he served on the board of directors at the Valentine Boys and Girls Club since 1985, the Chicago Association for the Education of Young Children for 2 years, and as president of the Teddy Bear Day Care Centers which he founded in 1973; he saw the Teddy Bear Day Care Centers expand to 6 locations and continues to make sure they are up to date and very well kept and secure; he has seen the Teddy Bear Day Care Centers expand from day care centers to full service early childhood educational program under Schmit family leadership; and

WHEREAS, Edward Schmit Jr. was born in the Bridgeport area of Chicago on March 30, 1945; he attended St. Anthony of Padua grammar school until 7th grade and in mid-year transferred to St. Simons grammar school where he graduated in 1959; he started at St. Rita of Cascia High School in the fall of 1959 and graduated in the spring of 1963; he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served in a highly classified intelligence unit for 6 years before being honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Edward Schmit Jr. is married to Debra Edburg Schmit; they have 5 children together, Heidi Schmit Skokal married to Tony Skokal, Ed Schmit III married to Linda Stiksel Schmit, Heather Schmit, John Schmit married to Maria Moreci Schmit, and Nick Schmit; they have 10 grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Joseph, Vincent, Eddie Schmit IV, Jillian, Peyton, Giovanni, Antonio, Abigail, and Madilyn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Edward Schmit Jr. for his service to the Augustinian Community of St. Rita of Cascia High School wish him well with all his future endeavours; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Edward Schmit Jr. as an expression of our esteem and respect.
