2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert A. |
4 | | Wetzel of Edwardsville, who passed away on January 21, 2013; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was born on August 26, 1937, in |
7 | | Highland to Arthur L. and Violet V. (Scheibe) Wetzel; he |
8 | | married Carol Kemmerer on August 20, 1960, at Grace Methodist |
9 | | Church in Waterloo, Iowa; he graduated from Edwardsville High |
10 | | School in 1955, Monmouth College in 1959, and the University of |
11 | | Wisconsin School of Banking in 1972; he was a staff sergeant in |
12 | | the Illinois National Guard; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel worked at TheBANK of Edwardsville |
14 | | and moved his way up throughout the years; he started in 1960 |
15 | | as a assistant cashier; he became vice-president and cashier in |
16 | | 1973, senior vice-president and cashier in 1976, and president |
17 | | in 1981, serving in that position for 22 years before retiring |
18 | | in August of 2004; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel always took an active role in the |
20 | | betterment of his community; he served on the board of the ABA |
21 | | Federal Bankpac; he was active with Backstoppers-The Policeman |
22 | | and Fireman Fund of Saint Louis, the Civic Entrepreneurs |

1 | | Organization, the Deaconess Foundation board of directors, the |
2 | | Edwardsville Central Business District Development and |
3 | | Improvement Committee, and the Edwardsville Community School |
4 | | District #7, treasurer; he served as past president of |
5 | | Edwardsville Jaycees, past president of Edwardsville/Glen |
6 | | Carbon United way, director of the Illinois Department of |
7 | | Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and on the Madison County |
8 | | Bankers Federation Executive Committee, the Saint Louis Sports |
9 | | Commission, the State Treasurer's Banking Advisory Committee, |
10 | | and on the Board Trails West Council of the Boy Scouts of |
11 | | America; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, He was currently serving on the board of directors |
13 | | of the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois where he was |
14 | | the past president, the board of directors of Lewis & Clark |
15 | | Community College, and as chairman of the Advisory Committee of |
16 | | Madison County Metrolink Feasibility Study; he was a member of |
17 | | the board of directors of Madison Mutual Insurance Company, the |
18 | | Regional Commerce & Growth Association, The Edwardsville |
19 | | Rotary Club, SIU-E Foundation, SIU-E School of Business |
20 | | Advisory Board, The Alliance of Edwardsville & Glen Carbon |
21 | | Executive Council, TheBANK of Edwardsville board of directors, |
22 | | and the University Park SIU-E board of directors; and |
23 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel has received numerous awards |
24 | | throughout the years including, the 100 Black Men of Alton |

5 | | Scout Award, Edwardsville Rotary's International Service Above |
6 | | Self Award, the Leadership Council's 16th Annual Salute to |

13 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was preceded in death by his parents |
14 | | and his brother, Ronald Wetzel; and

15 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel is survived by his wife, Carol; his |
16 | | daughter, Andrea (Russell) Wetzel-Darbon; his son Scott |
17 | | (Kristi) Wetzel; his grandchildren, Brawley (Lee) Darbon, |
18 | | Madison Olivia Darbon, Corbin Reid Wetzel, and Reagan Kate |
19 | | Wetzel; his brothers, Tom (Alice) Wetzel, Carl (Donna) Wetzel, |
20 | | and David (Jessica) Wetzel; and many nieces, nephews, and dear |
21 | | friends; therefore, be it
