HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a 
3discipline of personal beliefs that incorporates exercise, 
4meditation, and principles based on truthfulness, compassion, 
5and forbearance; its millions of practitioners work to attain 
6inner peace, good health, and better skills to deal with stress 
7and conflict in life; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Although rooted in ancient Chinese spiritual 
9tradition, Falun Gong was first taught publicly in China by Mr. 
10Li Hongzhi, the founder of the practice, in 1992; Falun Gong 
11spread quickly through word-of-mouth, with tens of millions of 
12Chinese citizens finding greater health and spiritual 
13well-being through the practice; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Falun Gong actively works to bring about a 
15peaceful resolution to the persecution of Falun Gong in China 
16and improve the future of the world's most populous country; 
17these actions have led to 4 Nobel Peace Prize nominations for 
18its founder, Li Hongzhi; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Since 1992, over 100 million people of all ages 
20and backgrounds in over 80 countries worldwide have become 
21healthier, happier, and more altruistic through their practice 
22of Falun Dafa; and

1    WHEREAS, Falun Dafa practitioners throughout the State of 
2Illinois and the nation at large dedicate countless hours to 
3their communities through free meditation lessons, Chinese 
4cultural productions of music and dance, and participation in 
5local events; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, On May 13, 2012, thousands of people throughout 
7the United States celebrated World Falun Dafa Day and 
8commemorated the 20th anniversary of the introduction of one of 
9the world's most popular meditation and cultivation practices; 
10therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we designate the week of May 12, 2013 as Falun Dafa Week in the 
14State of Illinois in honor of Falun Gong and its work in 
15bringing physical and spiritual well-being to the people of 
16this State; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Falun Gong as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
