| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is antithetical to the principles of American |
| 3 | | democracy for the government of the United States to use drones |
| 4 | | to conduct criminal investigations of U.S. citizens without a |
| 5 | | warrant; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, recently |
| 7 | | opined before the Senate Judiciary Committee that targeted |
| 8 | | killings of American citizens by drones on U.S. soil might be |
| 9 | | justified, but refused to release the legal memoranda |
| 10 | | supporting that position; therefore, be it
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 12 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 13 | | we urge the Illinois congressional delegation to eliminate the |
| 14 | | threat of drones being used to conduct warrantless searches of |
| 15 | | U.S. citizens by supporting the passage of the Preserving |
| 16 | | Freedom from Unwarranted Surveillance Act (S. 3287); and be it |
| 17 | | further

| 18 | | RESOLVED, That we urge U.S. Attorney General Holder to |
| 19 | | publicly release the legal memoranda supporting the use of |
| 20 | | drone strikes against American citizens on U.S. soil; and be it |
