| 2 | | WHEREAS, The recent school shooting at Sandy Hook |
| 3 | | Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, highlights the need to |
| 4 | | improve security at our nation's public schools; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Security at our State's public schools could be |
| 6 | | vastly increased if State and local law enforcement agencies |
| 7 | | and public school districts cooperated with one another to |
| 8 | | increase the presence of law enforcement officials in and |
| 9 | | around public schools; therefore, be it
|
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 11 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 12 | | we encourage State and local law enforcement agencies and |
| 13 | | public school districts in the State to cooperate with one |
| 14 | | another to establish school walk-through programs that would |
| 15 | | permit State and local law enforcement officials to more |
| 16 | | frequently stop and walk through public school properties |
| 17 | | during their patrols and thereby increase the security of those |
| 18 | | properties; and be it further

| 19 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 20 | | delivered to each regional superintendent of schools, the |
| 21 | | President of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association, the President |
| 22 | | of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, and the |
