| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor former Downers Grove mayor |
| 4 | | Betty Cheever on her many life's accomplishments; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty Cheever started her community involvement |
| 6 | | in Downers Grove through work on school study committees to |
| 7 | | provide adequate buildings and finances to meet growth in the |
| 8 | | 1960s; she served as a voting booth commissioner, as a member |
| 9 | | of the Citizens Advisory Committee to establish College of |
| 10 | | Dupage, and was a member of the Downers Grove-Woodridge League |
| 11 | | of Women Voters since 1962, serving as its president from |
| 12 | | 1969-1973; she was a member of the board of the Illinois League |
| 13 | | of Women Voters from 1974-1977, serving 2 years as treasurer; |
| 14 | | and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Betty Cheever took part in a wide-range of |
| 16 | | activities to better the community; she was on the Downers |
| 17 | | Grove village police and fire commission boards, the Village |
| 18 | | Forum to address cultural activities within the community, the |
| 19 | | Total Community Development committee, and she chaired the |
| 20 | | Downers Grove Heritage Fest; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1975, Betty Cheever was elected the first woman |
| 22 | | to serve as village commissioner after serving on the village |
