HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize  the Turkish American Society 
4of Chicago's first annual Intercultural Art and Language 
5Contest, which will be held at the AKOO Theater in Rosemont on 
6March 24, 2013; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Turkish American Society of Chicago (TASC) 
8Intercultural Art and Language Contest was created to promote 
9friendship and dialogue between different cultures; the 
10contestants will perform folk dances, sing songs, and recite 
11poetry in languages such as English, Spanish, and Turkish; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The TASC began operating in 2005 in the city of 
13Mount Prospect to facilitate and encourage cross-cultural 
14experiences and ongoing dialogue on issues of diversity; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The TASC is involved in generous philanthropic 
16ventures, including raising donations to aid victims of 
17Hurricane Sandy and the October 2011 earthquake in Eastern 
18Turkey; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, The TASC performs important work in communities 
20across Illinois; such activities include addressing the social 
21and cultural needs of the Turkish American community living in

1the Chicago area; introducing Turkish culture to the Chicago 
2area and establishing bridges between different cultures; 
3uniting the Turkish-American community; creating a welcoming 
4environment for newcomers and helping them adapt to life in the 
5U.S.; providing the community with educational services; and 
6establishing dialogue among communities with the goal of 
7leading to global peace; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The TASC's work in uniting the people of this 
9State and spreading the wonders of Turkish culture is worthy of 
10the greatest respect; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we recognize the Turkish American Society of Chicago's first 
14annual Intercultural Art and Language Contest and thank the 
15TASC for their wonderful work; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the Turkish American Society of Chicago as a 
18symbol of our esteem and respect.
