HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Centralia High 
4School Orphans on winning first-place in USA Today's Best 
5Mascot Contest; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Centralia Orphans won the final national round 
7with more than 25 million votes, or 59.8% of the total votes; 
8and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The Orphans won handily with nearly double the 
10total votes earned by the second place school, the Carbon Dinos 
11of Price, Utah; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Centralia High School opened their computer labs 
13to students and the community to cast votes; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Despite the challenges of heavy snowfall and USA 
15Today server issues, Centralia persevered; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Even during Spring Break, students went to school 
17to vote and ensure a win for Centralia; and
 
18    WHEREAS, For achieving first place, Centralia High School 
19has earned a $2,000 prize and a banner for their athletic

1department; and
 
2    WHEREAS, CHS recognizes the efforts of the greater 
3Centralia community in helping them win the national title; 
4therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we congratulate the Centralia High School Orphans on winning 
8the USA Today Best Mascot Contest; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Principal Reid Shipley and the Centralia High 
11School Orphans as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
