| 2 | WHEREAS, Robert Lyons has selflessly served on the | ||||||
| 3 | Schaumburg Township District Library Board
of Trustees since | ||||||
| 4 | 1969; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Robert Lyons served as library board president 11 | ||||||
| 6 | times, held the title of treasurer and
secretary during | ||||||
| 7 | multiple terms, and served as North Suburban Library System | ||||||
| 8 | Board President
3 times; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Robert Lyons was instrumental in helping keep a | ||||||
| 10 | balanced budget and by responsibly using
public funds, created | ||||||
| 11 | safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing buildings; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, His input led to the development of a diverse, | ||||||
| 13 | all-inclusive collection of materials and
offering of services | ||||||
| 14 | to all segments of the community; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Robert Lyons helped oversee the renovation of the | ||||||
| 16 | Central Library in 1972 and 1987, the
opening of the Hoffman | ||||||
| 17 | Estates Branch in 1976 and Hanover Park Branch in 1993, | ||||||
| 18 | construction
of a new Central Library in 1998, a new Hoffman | ||||||
| 19 | Estates Branch in 2002, and a new Hanover
Park Branch in 2006; | ||||||
| 20 | and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, With each new building, Robert Lyons helped | ||||||
| 2 | facilitate the inclusion of state-of-the-art
technology, as | ||||||
| 3 | well as accessible facilities and adaptive equipment for the | ||||||
| 4 | benefit of all
segments of the community; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, His devotion to the Schaumburg Township District | ||||||
| 6 | Library led him to be named North Suburban
Library System | ||||||
| 7 | Library Advocate in 1999, Illinois Library Association Trustee | ||||||
| 8 | of the Year in 2002,
and American Library Association Trustee | ||||||
| 9 | of the Year in 2005; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Robert Lyons used his expertise as an educator to | ||||||
| 11 | develop goals designed to encourage lifelong
learning and | ||||||
| 12 | improve literacy for all ages; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Robert Lyons invited and valued the opinions of | ||||||
| 14 | community residents and staff alike; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, His regular attendance at library functions | ||||||
| 16 | exemplified his affection for the
community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 18 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we recognize the many accomplishments of Robert Lyons and | ||||||
| 20 | notable efforts toward making the Schaumburg
Township District | ||||||
| 21 | Library a valued community treasure; and be it further
| ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 2 | presented to Robert Lyons as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
